About TNSDA
Under the framework of Energy Conservation (EC) Act, a two-tier structure has been established for undertaking energy efficiency activities with Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) at the Centre and State Designated Agencies (SDAs) as nodal agencies at the State level.
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 15(d) of EC Act 2001, all the State Governments have designated an agency as State Designated Agency (SDA) to coordinate,
regulate and enforce the provisions of this Act within the State, either by assigning additional responsibilities to one of the existing departments of the State Government or by establishing a dedicated Stand-Alone SDA for energy efficiency.
The GoTN had nominated TANGEDCO as Tamil Nadu State Designated Agency (TNSDA) to implement schemes / programmes under Energy Conservation Act 2001 vide G.O.76, dt. 04.10.2019 as per the directions of Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), MoP/GoI.
Consequently, the Chief Electrical Inspector to Government (CEIG), Tamil Nadu Electrical Inspectorate (TNEI) handed over the portfolio of State Designated Agency to Chief Engineer/DSM on 30.01.2020.
Accordingly, DSM wing of TANGEDCO in the capacity of TNSDA is implementing various schemes / programmes and activities across the state under the guidelines and overall supervision of BEE with financial assistance from BEE from January 2020.
